Issue 50: Your Week to Weekend in Koror, Palau 🇵🇼
Discover the beauty of Palau with our 3-day itinerary.
Hi Friends!
Earlier this summer, we had the chance to explore Palau, also known as Belau. We were captivated by the island nation’s natural beauty, deep-rooted culture, and commitment to sustainability, which define a way of life. From the warm hospitality of its people to its striking crystal-blue waters, Palau was truly an unforgettable experience, and we can’t wait to share it with you all.
Happy Travels!

But first… A Taste of Capitol Kitchen
Our trip to Palau was made possible by Capitol Kitchen. We accompanied Chef Casey to Palau, where we went on an amazing food tour and tasted the various island delicacies through his local connections (more on this in a later newsletter!).
We do have some exciting news— you can enjoy the taste of the ocean at Capitol Kitchen with the launch of their Oyster Specials this week! Whether you’re a fan of fresh (raw and cooked) oysters or just curious to try, this is the perfect time to visit. Stay tuned for more, and follow Capitol Kitchen on Instagram for the latest updates.
Special shout out to Chef Casey, who celebrated his birthday over the weekend 🥳
Alii!
In Paulaun, Alii means “hello.”
Upon arrival, we were instantly greeted by the warm hospitality of Palau—an island nation comprising about 340 islands and part of our Micronesia region. Taking a two-hour flight from Guam, we arrived in Koror and drove to Palasia Hotel Palau, where we spent two nights and three days exploring the natural landscapes and waters that the government and its people have committed to protecting and honoring.
Why Palau?
Palau’s pristine waters and diverse marine life make it a top destination for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. The island's lush green landscapes and vibrant culture offer a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, making it an ideal escape for families, couples, and solo travelers alike.
Regenerative and Sustainable Practices We Can Learn From Palau
The biodiversity of Palau is as precious as much as it is sacred. Since gaining independence in 1994, Palau has implemented strict regulations to protect its marine wildlife and is the first to implement an environmental protection law in place.
Conservation Facts:
Visitors must sign the Palau Pledge, which is stamped on their passports upon entering. The pledge promises to be culturally and ecologically responsible and respectful.
The Palau National Marine Sanctuary safeguards 80% of the country’s waters through a no-take zone. This initiative aligns with the Indigenous tradition known as “bull,” which protects ecosystems from human over-extraction.
Palau established the world’s first shark sanctuary in 2009.
The Rock Islands of the Southern Lagoon are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Jellyfish Lake is one of many lakes within the Rock Islands, home to millions of non-stinging jellyfish.
Week to Weekend Palau Itinerary
Day 1: Explore Koror
Morning: Start your day with a delicious breakfast and head out to explore the island of Koror. Your first stop should be the Etpison Museum, where you can learn about Palau’s rich history and culture through fascinating exhibits and artifacts.
The museum has two floors of Palauan artifacts including master carvers’ storyboards, photograph collages, special project exhibitions, jewelry pieces, and a gift shop with local souvenirs.
Lunch: Enjoy a mouthwatering meal at King’s Minute Mart, famous for its stuffed crab. This local delicacy is a must-try and will leave you wanting more.
Afternoon: Continue your exploration of Koror by strolling through the local markets and shops. Take your time to soak in the island sun and pick up some souvenirs. We picked some goodies up from the Etpison Museum gift shop and Palau Central Trading Co., which carries unique items from across the pacific.
Dinner: Cap off your day with an exquisite dining experience at the renowned Taj Indian Restaurant. Enjoy a variety of Indian dishes in a cozy, the best handmade cocktails and welcoming atmosphere.
Our favs: garlic nan, chili crab, kadai paneer (fresh homemade cheese cooked in butter and tomato-base gravy), and all the curry!
Day 2: Rock Islands Adventure
Morning: Take a boat tour to a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Rock Islands, with Fly High, a local tour agency led by the sweetest local couple, Wilson and Lucy. Their warm hospitality and deep knowledge of the area make for a fantastic adventure.
Your first stop is The Milky Way, a unique lagoon filled with white limestone mud that’s great for a natural spa experience.
Lunch: Head to Long Beach for some lunch. During our trip, Lucy and Wilson were so amazing in preparing a fish-to-table style lunch where we savored fresh fish, clams, and lobster prepared right in front of us.
Afternoon: After lunch, snorkel at Clam City to see the giant clams and enjoy a swim with the sharks in their natural habitat. The vibrant underwater world of Palau is truly mesmerizing.
Dinner: Head over to The Canoe House for some delicious burgers and entertainment. Every Saturday night, local and visitors gather for a live karaoke night that has everyone singing and dancing.
Day 3: Relax and Reflect
Morning: Start your day with a leisurely breakfast and head out for some retail therapy at Surangel Mall. This is the perfect time to pick up last-minute souvenirs or gifts.
Afternoon: Spend your afternoon unwinding and watching the sunset from one of Palau’s beautiful beaches. The serene environment is perfect for reflection and relaxation.
Dinner: Enjoy dinner at The Penthouse, where you can wind down, eat, and reflect on the day’s adventures. A local and visitor favorite, their menu offers some Palauan delicacies including a whole coconut crab demok (local soup with young taro leaves and coconut milk topped with spring onion), and fruit bat.
Palau’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and warm hospitality make it a perfect destination for a quick getaway from Guam. Whether exploring historical sites, enjoying the local cuisine, or diving into the crystal-clear waters, Palau offers a memorable experience for every traveler.
