Issue 56: Week to Weekend in Living Color 🎨
Feature on our favorite local art studio + color analysis
Hi Friends!
Art has a special way of bringing color and beauty into the world, connecting us through creativity and self-expression. No matter the medium—painting, music, or storytelling, it reminds us of who we are and the joys and imperfections of being human.
For me, this connection to art has deepened through watching my 10-year-old grow at Dear Tree over the years. It’s been incredible to see not just his artistic progress but also the confidence he’s gained along the way. Moments like these remind me of the value of nurturing creativity in ourselves and future generations.
This issue celebrates that idea—from my son’s journey at Dear Tree to the transformative color analysis Akina and I shared. I hope it inspires you to embrace the art, color, and creativity in your life, too.
Much love,
Marissa
Week to Weekend in Living Color
For the first time in Guam, we had the opportunity to participate in the exclusive Color Confident Guam event, hosted by DJ Lezeah and Ed Suarez, featuring renowned Certified Image Consultant Ginny Villegas.
Ginny’s expertise spans over a decade, with certifications from the International Image Institute in Toronto and additional training in Korea. Her unique approach blends Western and Asian methods of color analysis to provide a comprehensive service tailored to individual skin tones, features, and lifestyles.
Beyond just wardrobe choices, this newfound knowledge helps project the image we want to present to the world—whether in personal or professional settings.
What Is Color Analysis?
Color analysis delves into three main theories: undertone, value, and intensity. These elements determine your season (Winter, Spring, Summer, or Autumn), guiding you toward shades that harmonize with your natural palette. For example, those with soft features, like us, benefit from muted tones rather than bold, bright hues.
Why Is This Important?
Ginny shared that color analysis is just one facet of image consulting. Alongside style and wardrobe development, this service empowers individuals to exude confidence and authenticity. Understanding your colors can catalyze self-expression and growth, whether you’re undergoing a life transition, a career shift, or seeking reinvention. And as Ginny noted, “You can’t manage how others perceive you, but you can manage how you present yourself.”
Our Takeaway
This experience wasn’t just about aesthetics but a journey into intentional self-presentation. Wearing your “best colors” elevates your look and strengthens your presence. Whether stepping into the boardroom or embracing a casual weekend, knowing your color season helps you feel and look your best.
During our session, we each discovered colors that best complement us. Akina was revealed as a True Summer, and Marissa as a Soft Autumn. These results were transformative, and with Ginny’s guidance, we understood how the right colors enhance our natural features, reflect our personalities, and boost self-confidence.
Want to Try It?
If you’re ready to embrace your true colors, stay tuned! Ginny Villegas is hoping to return in 2025!

✍🏻 What inspired you to create Dear Tree?
Dear Tree was inspired by the belief that great things take time to grow. Like nurturing a tree, we support each artist’s development at their own pace. My 20+ years in graphic design and visual arts influence our programs, integrating diverse mediums like painting, ceramics, and metalsmithing to offer convergence education.
✍🏻 What sets Dear Tree apart?
We believe everyone has creativity within them. Our programs are designed to ignite that spark, blending technical learning with experimentation. Whether it’s kids exploring art for the first time or adults rediscovering creativity, we guide each individual’s journey with care and flexibility.
✍🏻 Memorable Moments at Dear Tree
One of my favorite moments was when a 5-year-old gained confidence in her art after starting with self-doubt. It’s magical to witness these transformations. Art helps people express themselves—whether it’s a shy teen opening up through their artwork or an adult rediscovering creativity after years away.
